The Clown, the Idiot, the Child, the Hero, the Monster - wonderful characters that stepped from the mind of the award winning author, Elísabet Jökulsdóttir, and onto the stage at Tjarnarbíó. This is a theater of the dark and a grown-up circus unlike anything the audience can imagine. In the middle of a horrendous war, the protagonist Dísa is busy running a restaurant, a restaurant that never closes, where a dubious circus manager introduces various creatures and strange characters, plays cabaret and orders the audience to clap.
The Blood soaked Rabbit is a surreal comedy about trauma and its consequences. The work is written from within a trauma, by a woman trying to understand her own traumas, about a character who struggles with the traumas in a symbolic way as they appear to us in the most unlikely guises. Elisabet proves once again that she is an artist of language, an artist who dissects issues with blunt humor and painful frankness.
The Blood soaked Rabbit was premiered in Tjarnarbíó in February 2022 and was extremely well received by the public as well as critics. Later that year it was nominated as the best script at the Icelandic Theater Awards.
